ABOUT US
The Graduate Women's Project (GWP) is the only program at UC-Berkeley devoted
solely to addressing the concerns of graduate women. GWP was first established
in 1981 in response to an overwhelming demand for campus resources that would
address graduate women's personal, social, and academic needs. Since 1985,
GWP has operated as its own independent project, supporting, organizing, and
sponsoring a range of activities and programs. GWP also functions as a clearinghouse
for graduate campus women's groups, and as an advocate for graduate women's
concerns.
The 2006 Women's Resource Guide:
The WRG is a free booklet available to everyone that includes dozens of
campus and community resources, listing everything from female-owned
businesses, to religious organizations, to health groups, to social and
artist spaces, to political groups, and more. It is beautifully illustrated by a local artist, and has just been updated, so please stop by #4500 Anthony Hall for a copy or email gwp@ga.berkeley.edu for us to send you a copy through campus mail.
The online version is now available. Download it here.

Annual GWP events include:
The Graduate Women's Caucus
The GWC brings together graduate women from a broad range of disciplines as an apolitical vehicle to facilitate discussion and action on issues and concerns important to graduate women. They also serve as a committee to lead and advise the Graduate Women's Project on program direction. GWC will hold monthly informal lunches which, in addition to programming events, will function as a support network for issues relevant to graduate women.
Distinguished Women Lecture Series
Community women and national lecturers are invited to speak and interact with graduate women on their research or efforts in the community.
If there are any women who you would like to hear give a public talk, or who you know are speaking and whom other women on campus would like
to hear, please contact the GWP coordinator. Past speakers included Bettina Apetheker who spoke on "Re-framing Feminist Visions."
Check the website for future lectures, and if there is someone you think we should invite, please contact the GWP coordinator at gwp@ga.berkeley.edu.
Power Lunches
Lunches with UC Berkeley women leaders including key lecturers and deans. These lunches are intended to be
informal in order to encourage graduate women to socialize and network with these successful women in the
Berkeley community. Previous semesters included a power lunch with Dean Mary Ann Mason, who spoke on parenting and academia,
in addition to hosting a roundtable with six prominent Berkeley professors who also spoke to their experience as
academics and parent. If there is a woman on campus you would like to see at one of these events, please contact the GWP coordinator.
Mixers and Receptions
GWP holds social mixers and receptions every semester. In Fall 2005, we hosted a reception with free salsa classes,
and in Fall 2006 we hosted a California Wine and Cheese Mixer. Our Most recent reception was the Spring 2007 End of the Year Spring Fiesta.
Get out of the library and come socialize with other graduate students. Everyone is invited to attend!
Workshops
GWP initiated a new program in Fall 2005 as a response to a general need expressed by graduate women on campus. The "Stress Management Workshop" is an hour-long workshop conducted by two psychologists at the Tang Center's Counseling and Psychological Services, and is followed by a lunch social (and massages provided by RSF) that is designed to create a sense of community among graduate women, develop important support networks, and educate about the resources available on the UC Campus. GWP will try to institute this event as a regular event every semester.
