GA Committees

The Graduate Assembly's committees are established in its by-laws. These committees address issues relevant to the internal and external workings of the Graduate Assembly as well as the internal and external workings of UC Berkeley. Each delegate is require to serve on one of these committees.

Executive Board | Chair: President
The Executive Board is a coordinating body that ensures that all aspects of the Graduate Assembly are informed of ongoing matters and that the members of the Graduate Assembly support one another in their individual or joint efforts. The Executive Board may act for the Delegate Assembly on matters of immediate concern. Matters of immediate concern are those matters on which the Delegate Assembly would normally take action but which require attention when the Delegate Assembly is between sessions or is not in session. Notes are taken of the meetings, which must be noticed and open to the public.

Budget Committee | Chair: Budget Officer
The Budget Committee shall formulate and recommend to the Delegate Assembly, after consultation with the President and each area of the Graduate Assembly, the general allocation of all Graduate Assembly funds; in particular, this includes the annual budget. Its recommendations shall incorporate the Graduate Assembly’s sustainability policy. It shall also monitor the implementation of the budget throughout the year. In addition, included in its procedures shall procedures governing financial decisions of the Graduate Assembly. Notes are taken of the meetings, which must be noticed and open to the public.

Campus Affairs Committee | Chair: Campus Affairs Vice President
The Campus Affairs Committee shall aid the Vice President for Campus Affairs in studying and making recommendations to the Delegate Assembly on issues related to campus policies and procedures. It shall also assist the Vice President for Campus Affairs in organizing, recruiting, and planning efforts that are the responsibility of the Vice President for Campus Affairs. Notes are taken of the meetings, which must be noticed and open to the public.

Environmental Sustainability Committee | Contact: Environmental Sustainability Chair
The Environmental Sustainability Committee shall advise the Graduate Assembly, as well as all necessary individuals within the Graduate Assembly, on the sustainability of all relevant actions and politics of the Graduate Assembly. It shall also issue an annual report on the Gradate Assembly’s sustainability and shall work with the relevant parts of the Graduate Assembly to improve sustainable practices and implement sustainable policies. Notes are taken of the meetings, which must be noticed and open to the public.

External Affairs | Chair: External Affairs Vice President
This committee aids the Vice President for External Affairs in studying and making recommendations to the Assembly on issues and developments of concern to graduate students on the local, system-wide, state, and national levels. Notes are taken of the meetings, which must be noticed and open to the public.

International Student Affairs Committee | Chair: International Student Affairs Chair
The International Student Affairs Committee shall serve and support all international graduate students on campus. This shall include monitoring all policies of the relating to issues affecting international students and making recommendations on these issues to the Delegate Assembly. Notes are taken of the meetings, which must be noticed and open to the public.

Funding Committee | Chair: Funding Chair
The Funding Committee shall make recommendations to the Delegate Assembly on how to allocate the funds under the authority of the Graduate Assembly. The goal of such recommendations shall be to improve the quality of graduate student life by supporting individual graduate students, departmental activities, and graduate student groups. Notes are taken of the meetings, which must be noticed and open to the public.

Rules Committee | Chair: Rules Officer
The Rules Committee shall monitor the internal actions of the Graduate Assembly to ensure that they comply with the Charter, these Bylaws, and any Memoranda of Understanding between the Graduate Assembly and other entities. It generally shall include proposing changes to the Charter, these Bylaws, and any Memoranda as well as deciding disputes regarding the Charter and these Bylaws. The Rules Committee shall conduct an annual review process of these Bylaws and all Memoranda. The Rules Committee may make recommendations to the Delegate Assembly regarding what corrective and, if necessary, disciplinary action should be taken against members of the Graduate Assembly who, without good cause, knowingly violate the Charter and these Bylaws. Notes are taken of the meetings, which must be noticed and open to the public.

Technology Committee | Chair: Technology Chair
The Technology Committee shall monitor the technological aspects of the Graduate Assembly and shall propose ways for the Graduate Assembly to use technology to further its mission. It shall establish policies that govern the use of and placement of content on the Graduate Assembly’s website. It shall also establish policies that govern the use of other Graduate Assembly technology. It shall work, on behalf of the Graduate Assembly, with any entity or individual that provides support for the Graduate Assembly’s technology.
