Budget Committee

Purpose

The Budget Committee shall formulate and recommend to the Delegate Assembly, after consultation with the President and each area of the Graduate Assembly, the general allocation of all Graduate Assembly funds; in particular, this includes the annual budget. Its recommendations shall incorporate the Graduate Assembly’s sustainability policy. It shall also monitor the implementation of the budget throughout the year. In addition, included in its procedures shall procedures governing financial decisions of the Graduate Assembly.

Committee Reports

February 5, 2009

The GA budget committee has begun work on the 2009-2010 budget and expects the next academic year to be a tough year financially. Any GA delegate or unit is welcome to provide input to the budget and may (should) contact the budget chair at budget@ga.berkeley.edu. The committee will also present alternative plans for investing its reserves to offset the decreasing GA budget.


December 4, 2008

The budget committee met on 11/24/08 and began to discuss the construction of the 2009-2010 budget. Representatives from the budget committee will start to approach each GA unit with budgetary needs to develop a sense of each unit's goals. This will ensure that the budget committee can properly facilitate these goals.The budget committee has also begun in earnest to explore the possibility of investing the GA savings with the UC Berkeley endowment. A stronger case for this action will be presented at the February delegates meeting (at the earliest). Any delegate interested in joining in the conversation (or helping) should contact Nish at budget@ga.berkeley.edu.The next budget committee meeting will likely be in late January. November 6, 2008

Budget committee met on the 22nd of October and discussed the GA financial strategic plan in addition to procedures that would enhance the flexibility of the GA budget. A subcommittee of the budget committee will look into the feasibility of investing the GA savings in the UC berkeley endowment. The next meeting of the committee will likely be on the 19th of November at 6 pm.

October 2, 2008

Finance committee met on 17th of September and talked about the goals of the committee for this year including investing GA savings in the UC Berkeley Endowment, the GA's involvement in the Lower Sproul Finance Committee and implementation of the committee's rules. Next meeting: October 22, 6pm.
