Introduction to Robert's Rules of Order

adapted from http://www.robertsrules.org/

Members express themselves by moving motions. A motion is a proposal that the entire membership take action or a stand on an issue. To make one, obtain the floor, and say "I move that we ..." and wait for a second to your motion. If seconded, the mover is allowed to speak first, then other speakers. All comments and debate are directed to the chair. Then voting occurs, usually by voice.
